The Lapiás are constituted by superficial fractures in the rocks that expand through them, resulting in large channels that furrow the rocks horizontally or vertically, as well as large rock fields, isolated from each other and with different types of stretch marks, fringes and shallow holes.
The Lapiás were initially formed by the dissolution of the rock in contact with the ground, thus opening the grooves. Then, with the erosion of the topsoil, the rocks were exposed and the dissolution of the rock continued to expand the grooves. Eventually the rocks opened completely and formed rock fields with patterns of grooves and crevices. Vegetation often fill the spaces between the rocks. The oldest inhabitants of the region claim to be part of a very old astronomical calendar. Next to a formation, to which the town gives the name of "Rocha do Elefante", there is an archway through which we will pass.
Another structure is shaped like a jug of water, which by chance is oriented towards the dawn. Legend says that, in the Summer Solstice, the sun directs the shadow created by the rock to show the entrance of the mine. This formation has a sculpted niche, an indicator of Christianization and, by coincidence, the Saint Orago of the population is S. João Baptista, which is celebrated annually through traditional festivities.
