This journey to one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal begins at the National Palace of Vila de Sintra, a monument that highlights the iconic chimneys of this municipality. From this point until reaching Parque da Liberdade, the walker will always remain inside Vila de Sintra. This park is home to numerous ecological niches, with more than 60 different species.
The adventure continues with the landscape of Fonte da Sabuga, a fountain known for its medicinal properties and "whose water, taken in fasting, can cure bilious diarrheas" (in Aquilégio - 1726). It is said that whoever tastes the water of the fountain will never forget Sintra; We suggest you to use this opportunity to take Sintra with you.
Before arriving at Castelo dos Mouros, the route contemplates going through the Church of Santa Maria. Monte Sereno, the Viewpoint of Santa Eufémia and the old Juventude Hostal, are other points of interest in this magical walk through Monte la Lua. When arriving at Palácio da Pena - the first palace built in Europe with a romantic expression and one of the most visited monuments in Portugal – the hikers will begin to descend by the sides of Castelo dos Mouros until arriving at Parque das Merendas, where the travelers will enjoy the unique, dense and characteristic landscape of Sintra. The tour ends where it began, at the National Palace of Sintra.
