This trail begins at Porto do Calhau on the island of Pico and is inserted into a classified area as UNESCO world heritage and takes hikers for a short and pleasant walk, full of history and beautiful sceneries.

At first, you go near the sea until you reach the crossroads where you should turn. From here the trail passes by the magnificent fields of vines, which form one of the most beautiful landscapes of the island.

Along the way, the vineyards are protected by walls made from lava, that is a way to protect the camps from the force of the sea used on this island for hundreds of years.

Follow the signs until you reach the Moinho dos Frades, a windmill located at Lajido da Criação Velha which was recently restored and can be visited by the general public. This mill dates from the twentieth century and still retains all the grinding mechanism that was once used.

Before continuing to the end of the route in the area of Areias Largas, you can also enjoy visiting the viewpoint, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the vineyards and the Ilhéus da Madalena.
