The Island of Pico is the second largest island of the archipelago, and owes its name to the imposing Mountain of Pico, that can be found there and is the highest peak of Portugal.

The trail of climbing to the peak starts at Cabeço das Cabras, in São Caetano parish and is the most famous trail of the whole island of Pico. Due to its pronounced slope, it is considered of high difficulty, therefore requiring some resistance and good physical condition.

Although not very long in terms of distance, the way up to the peak may take a little longer than normal. Do not forget to bring enough food and water for the trip, as well as appropriate clothing.

The challenge of rising to this magnificent peak is rewarded by the feeling of conquer of having reached the top of the highest peak of Portugal, with 2351 meters of altitude. From here you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of the island as well as the rest of the central islands of the Azores archipelago, in particular Faial, Sao Jorge, Graciosa and Terceira, with the vast Atlantic Ocean as background.
