The trail of Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lagoon) starts at the viewpoint Serra da Barrosa, Ribeira Grande county, at São Miguel Island.

Lagoa do Fogo is set in a natural reserve, located in the crater of the volcano. Its beauty and serenity reflect a true natural wonder, which still hold the primitive and wild aspect, by being the lagoon with the least human intervention of all the lagoon of São Miguel.

The descent to the lagoon is short and it is down a steep path, somewhat narrow and unprotected, so we recommend suitable footwear. Along the trail you will find a variety of endemic species of fauna and flora. Immerse yourself in this magnificent nature, with the melodious sound of the birds and the natural smell of the plants.
